THE Scarborough branch of the charity Sight-saver's International has donat ed a specialist lamp to a Ugandan village in memory of a former secretary.
The slit lamp, which costs almost £3,000, will be used for eye diagnostic procedures in Busuga and represents the most up-to-date equipment of its type.

A plaque has been fitted to the lamp in memory of one-time secretary Mary Beetham who died in April last year. A substantial part of its cost was raised by many of Miss Beetham's friends.

To date, the branch has raised more than £40,000 for good causes.
