TWO Scarborough neighbourhoods are clamping down on unwanted salesmen and bogus officials.
Residents of Trafalgar Square and St Mary's Lodge are both to become No Cold Calling Zones in the bid to clampdown on the problem.

The drive involves residents displaying posters and labels prominently in their homes while householders will also h
ave access to special phone lines to report any infringements. In addition, signs will be posted around the boundary of the zone to warn off cold-callers.

County Councillor Clare Wood, executive member with responsibility for Trading Standards and Regulatory Services, said of the Trafalgar Square zone: "I'm delighted local agencies and the local community have worked together to tackle the social problems, which previously existed, in order to create a safer neighbourhood."

She added: "By embracing the trading standards campaign, local residents now have the confidence to say 'no' to uninvited salespeople and to warn rogue traders and cold-callers they are not welcome. I would urge other communities to follow their lead."

No Cold Calling Zones particularly target:

  • Improperly conducted property repairs or gardening maintenance.

  • Distraction burglary.

  • Obtaining property be deception.

I am sure the SEN as usual have reported this article on information from a third party, however the NRCC councillor Clare Wood is misinformed, the area's cover by the new zones are, Trafalgar Sq, Maria's Court and St Mary's Lodge.
