A FINALIST on hit TV show The Apprentice hopes some of the business knowledge gleaned from her father – who used to run restaurants in Scarborough – will win her the top job.
Yasmina Siadatan goes head-to-head with Staffordshire licensing development manager Kate Walsh in tonight's final, which will see the two women launch their own chocolates.
The winner will get a £100,000-a-year job working for the show's star, businessman Alan Sugar.
Yasmina's father, Medi Siadatan, 57, ran Medi's pizzeria, now home to Shades wine bar in Crown Crescent, from June 1979 to December 1980, having previously managed Tricolos in Newborough.
Hull-born Yasmina, 27, followed in her father's footsteps and currently runs a restaurant in Caversham, near Reading.
Her uncle, Hossein, formerly managed Medi's and was manager of Scarborough's Amicio Di Siadatan restaurant in the Prince of Wales Hotel, Esplanade.
Born in Iran, Medi moved to Britain from Italy in 1975 and married Yasmina's mother Paula in Leeds the following year.
The couple lived together in South Cliff, Scarborough, but later divorced.
West Ayton architectural consultant Richard Green, who worked on some of Medi's restaurants, said: "I remember them being a really hard-working couple – it is easy to see where Yasmina got her entrepreneurial skills from.
"He came across as a special individual due to his enthusiasm and his hard work. But his real love was his Porsche Turbo – he loved that car."
Medi became part-owner of the pizzeria with businessman John Barman, the former owner of Scarborough's 2Bs nightclub and the man behind Flight Avionics and seafront attraction Terror Tower, following a chance meeting in the United States.
But following a rift between the pair, Medi's was sold to local businessmen Nigel Taylor and Richard White, of Scarborough's Palm Court Hotel.
After six months it was sold to the firm Pecan Pizzeria, of Hull, while Medi opened Medio Restaurant in Hull.
He went on to open a string of restaurants in the Midlands area before returning to the Middle East to set up an Italian fast food business.
Speaking to the Evening News shortly after selling his stake in Medi's in 1980, Medi said: "It was a great feeling to go into the restaurant every night to talk to the people - especially those who brought their children - and to make the pizzas."
A father-of-12, Medi hit the headlines earlier this year when it was revealed he had three wives who he married under Muslim law.
He previously launched a legal battle challenging Britain's laws against polygamy.
North Yorkshire Apprentice contestant Rocky Andrews makes a special appearance on the show during tonight's final.
Both finalists must perform one final task with teams chosen from the previously fired contestants.
The 21-year-old from Chop Gate, near Helmsley, who owns a chain of sandwich shops, was "fired" by Sir Alan in the second week of the series after failing to make a profit in a catering task in which he led his team.
