STUDENTS at St Augustine's School are giving younger pupils a helping hand with their reading skills.
The school in Sandybed Lane has launched a new initiative which aims to encourage children to read more often.

Older students have been mentoring pupils who have difficulties with reading.

Literacy co-ordinator, Margaret Magee, said: "This is something we are doing every day now and each pupil with have one session a week.

"We have a lot of pupils involved and it is lovely to see them working together and helping each other.

"The mentors are also getting a lot out of this initiative as it is encouraging them to read more as well.

"This is the first time we have done this and we are hoping to carry it on."
