SINGER Jane McDonald has backed plans to give the Futurist theatre a facelift.
The Yorkshire entertainer, who is set to perform at the venue on Sunday, told the Evening News she was behind proposals to update the seaside venue.
Other famous acts have also recently backed the proposals, including Ken Dodd, the Chuckle Brother
s and Cannon and Ball.
Ms McDonald, who found fame after appearing on the BBC docu-soap The Cruise, said any improvements to the theatre, while retaining its heritage, would bring fans flocking to Scarborough.
She said: "It is a lovely theatre and anything that can be done to improve it but keep it's tradition would be fantastic.
"It would no doubt attract more people, which would be great too, because that is really half the battle.
Ms McDonald, who combines her singing career with appearances on the daytime TV show, Loose Women, said she couldn't wait to perform in the town again after her only previous show was hampered by the weather.
She said: "I'm really looking forward to it, especially with it being in Yorkshire and by the seaside.
"It means I can go home on an evening and get into my own bed, which is a real bonus at the moment!
"The first time I came here, it was the middle of winter and it was absolutely freezing.
"You could see my breath as I sang and everyone was sat in their coats, but they all continued to watch the show and clapped me at the end which was very humbling, I just hope this time we get a bit better weather.''
Fans can expect to hear plenty
of new material in the show, which promises to be an evening of music and laughter, with many songs taken from the new album, Jane, including ballads, motown classics and disco numbers.
However the singer was very humble in describing her role.
She said: "It's a brilliant show without me in it. I have an 11-piece band who are just phenomenal and I just come on, in a frock, and sing a few songs.
"It's old fashioned traditional family entertainment and I love getting dressed up and performing for a living."
But despite her increased workload, including many TV appearances, she added there was no respite in her schedule.
She said: "I haven't cut back, I've done 67 shows but I've still got more than 30 shows to do and already got 100 more booked for next year as well as the TV show."
Jane McDonald is at the Futurist on Sunday at 7.30pm.
