SCARBOROUGH was literally buzzing over the weekend as thousands of scooters descended on the town for a national rally.
Around 3,000 scooterists attended the event, which included a mass rideout yesterday from the Spa complex to the Newlands Park Hotel, followed by a custom show.

Scooter fanatics also turned out in force for a trade show held at the Spa on Saturday, and enjoyed a performance from ska band Bad Manners as part of the event.

Johnny Bolland, rally co-ordinator from Value for Money Promotions, said: "I think the message was clear this weekend: recession ... what recession?

"The trade show was hugely popular and I know all the stall holders enjoyed a great day's trade. The gigs were sold out, and everyone made the effort to get to Scarborough from all over the country.

"It has been a really great event this year, with a great turnout. I think we would have seen even more people but I know many had problems finding accommodation."

The rally was organised by the British Scooter Rallies Association, and was backed by the Yorkshire Scooter Alliance.

As well as the shows at the Spa, Vivaz in Huntriss Row also organised events to accompany the rally including DJ sets and live performances.
Gary Rush had travelled from Hull for the event. He said: "Last time we came to Scarborough for the rally it was sunny enough to wear our shorts. The weather hasn't put us off this time though. It's a great event, and a great chance to see lots of different scooters, along with some familiar faces."

Bradford scooter fan Finney has been coming to Scarborough for rallies since 1981. He said: "I always love coming to Scarborough, it is one of the great Yorkshire rallies.

"It is a really nice place to come for a ride out and I always look forward to it. They are good events to come to, and it's always good to see so many people, and with so little trouble caused."

What a fantastic weekend! The town was buzzing with scooters. - This event brings much needed revenue to the town - The town needs to continue supporting future Scooter Rallies and work together with the B.S.R.A for planning the event, It was chaotic at the Spa due to scooters parking everywere on saturday morning - The parking area should have been empty of cars completely for the duration of the weekend. Then maybe the buses would have been able to get through. should we really expect this council to manage any organization?!!!! - Please remember Scarborough, these scooter riders are generally middle aged and bring families and spend loads of money in the town the pubs were heaving and i cant say that ive heard of any trouble whatsoever. with the towns support they will be back!! Paul from the Scarborough Castle Coasters Scooter Club.
