A SCARBOROUGH teacher has appeared in court charged with nine further child sex offences.

Keith Fletcher, 56, who is a PE teacher at Scalby School, did not enter a plea during yesterday's hearing at Scarborough Magistrates' Court and spoke only to confirm his name, age and address during the 15-minute hearing. Fletcher, of Hampton Road, appeared in court on new allegations of indecent assault on a 14-year-old girl and eight charges of indecent assault on two girls under 16, with the alleged offences dating back to the 1970s and 1980s.

Fletcher, who was dressed in a dark blue jacket and blue shirt and red tie, was in court last month on allegations including gross indecency with a child, indecent assault on a girl under the age of 14 and indecent assault on a girl under 16, during the 1970s and 1980s.

He was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at the court on February 19. He has taught at the school for more than 30 years and is a well-known figure on the sporting scene. He has been suspended from the school.
