SCARBOROUGH families can enjoy some festive cheer aboard Christmas themed train rides on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
The Santa Specials will be run this weekend and also the weekend of December 13-14, and from December 19-22 between Pickering and Levisham and back, as well as Grosmont and Goathland and back.

There will be four services provided each day from Pickering and four from Grosmont.

Tickets include an audience with Santa in his mobile grotto, a “high quality” present and refreshments available from both Pickering and Grosmont stations.

Passengers can also enjoy festive food on the Moors Railway’s dining train, dubbed the Christmas Moorlander, which can serve up to 109 guests in period Pullman carriages.

The three-hour journey from Grosmont to Pickering departs at noon and travels through the National Park.

The Moorlander will operate on December 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21, 28, 29 and 31.

It also runs on January 3 and 4 but departs slightly later from Grosmont at 12.30pm.

Between Sunday December 28 and Sunday January 4, the iconic steam engine Sir Nigel Gresley is expected to be in operation along the line.

The engine is known as an A4 Pacific and there are only six engines of this kind remaining in the world.
