THOUSANDS of pounds have been donated to local organisations following festive fundraising organised by Scarborough Round Table.
Funds collected during the Santa Sleigh Pull were presented at the Round Table’s fourth annual charity night.
The Tablers toured the town over 11 nights on the run up to Christmas last year, with Santa helping to collect the money which has been donated back to the community.
Ben Kitto, the table’s community service officer, said: “We would like to thank the generosity of the people of Scarborough. We have been able to collect and donate over £6,000 to worthwhile and needy causes within the town. The money from Scarborough people is being given back to Scarborough people.
“We try to pass the money back to organisations that have specific causes and needs around children. The national Round Table organisation focuses on Children and we like to do the same.”
Local charities were invited to write to the table to request a share of the funds during January and February, with applications going before a committee who decided which were the most worthwhile causes. The table received over 60 applications for funds and is donating the money to 20 organisations this year.
Organisations to benefit include:
Scarborough Pregnancy Crisis Centre – Scarborough Disabled Swimming Group – North Yorks PCT – Lindhead School – 49th Scarborough Scout Group – Scarborough West Division Girl Guides – Kevin O’Connor School of Irish Dancing – The Meeting Place – Jellie Tots Emmanuel Playgroup – Seamer Tots and Parent Group – Boys Brigade 5th Company Scarborough – St Mary's Church – Burniston and Cloughton – Stepping Stones – Northstead Community Pre School – The Boys Brigade 2nd Scarborough Company – Scarborough Friends of Martin House – Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale Young Carers Project – Kingfishers Swimming Club – Burniston and Cloughton Pre-School.
Mr Kitto said: “The Scarborough Round Table would like to take the opportunity to thank Mike Shingler, John White, Andy Hire, Spectrum Discos and Corrigan’s Arcade for their help with the annual Santa Sleigh Collection.”
