BOSSES at the Royal National Lifeboat Institution have reminded the public that it is business as usual for the charity, although staff at HM Coastguard are currently undertaking a work to rule.
The charity fears that being associated with the industrial action could dissuade the public from making donations.

Coastguard staff are currently on a five week work to rule following a 48 hour strike over the Bank Holiday weekend, however the RNLI charity - whose staff are volunteers - are operating as normal.

RNLI Chief Executive Andrew Freemantle CBE said: 'There is still some confusion in the minds of the public over the respective roles of the RNLI and the coastguard. The RNLI's charitable UK lifeboat service is provided entirely through the public's generosity, unlike the coastguard which is government-funded. If people think our lifeboat crews are part of the strike then there is a real possibility that they will not support our charity in the future.'

Coastguard emergency services are not affected by the industrial action.
