SCARBOROUGH Museums Trust has a new curator.
Jan Bee Brown, who has worked with Sir Alan Ayckbourn since 1993 including designing the current summer season at the Stephen Joseph Theatre, is the team's new Curator of Exhib-itions.

She has spent 22 years designing for theatre in Britain, Europe and India and is currently an external assessor at Edinburgh College of Art.

Ms Brown will be responsible in her new role for initiating and managing Scarb-orough Museums Trust's entire range of exhibitions whether that are gallery-based or stem from work linked to Scarborough Collections or the Rotunda Museum.

She said: "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the team at Scarborough Museums Trust, with a broad arts background and interest in social history I am looking forward to gaining an in-depth knowledge of the collections managed by the Trust."

She added: "I am also looking forward to developing future exhibitions sharing the astonishingly diverse and eclectic stories attached to these treasures with the Trust's current friends and with new audiences. I would love people to let me know what they would like to see."

Karen Snowden, Head of Collections, said: "I am delighted that Jan is joining the team. We want to plan and present exhibitions which are diverse and offer something to each of the different communities in the Scarborough area. The breadth of Jan's background uniquely equips her to carry this through successfully."

Well done! Now we have a "curator of exhibitions" to join Karen Snowden "head of collections", along with Prof Peter Rawson "chairman", Ralph Coyle "deputy chairman", Shirley Collier,"chief executive" plus of course the team ordinary "trustees" which includes James Corrigan, Nick TaylorDavid Jeffels, and of courseTom Fox!"we want to present exhibitions which offer something to each of the different comunities in the Scarboro area", the Trust says.Given that the Rotunda is given over to a collection of "stones and bones", and Woodend is now a "digital workshop", where and when will the proposed exhibitions happen? All that the trust has offered to people interested in local history and heritage so far is their under publicised website www.scarboroughmuseum.comMeanwhile it has been left to an enthusiastic team of amatuer enthusiasts, the Scarborough Maritime Heritage Society, to raise funds and premises for the nearest thing to a local museum that Scarborough is ever likely to have, that is if it ever gets the official recognition it needs. At the moment this society does not have the luxury of taxpayer funded "professionals". It does have an enthusiasm and love of our local history that deserves our support. Their web site is,www.scarboroughsmaritimeheritagesociety.org.uk

I'm surprised they have room for any stones and bones in the museum.

Weel said both of the above, so what are the actual "footfall" figures for the stones and bones rooms? Have they brought this theatre designer in to sex the whole presentation up of the afore mentioned stones and bones. Surely Shirley and the rest of this lot have by now realised whats really needed in the town?
Whats the collective cost of all these PR and consultants etc?

NOW, now people please give credit where credit is due.

Taking into account the debt Scarborough has been landed with for all the pie in the sky schemes and road diversions, £4 million for an improved seating area and skateboard run is peanuts in comparison.
