SCARBOROUGH woke up to a covering of snow today, with more snow and icy winds predicted for the weekend.

Light snow showers are forecast today with the possibility of heavy snow tomorrow. The Arctic chill will also see strong, icy winds coming down from the north which will make it feel very cold into the start of next week.

The Met Office has warned of severe, wintry conditions across the country, with the chance of widespread ice caused by rain and snow falling onto already frozen surfaces.

Evening News weather expert Richard Thompson said: "It can bit a bit different on the coast – we may get it all or we may get very little. The main thing will be the cold."
