A SCARBOROUGH over 60s' club has produced a book of members' memories bringing back to life tales of times gone by.
The Elder Tree Group teamed up with the Leisure and Learning Group to put together a book featuring the stories of 11 of its members.

Entitled Present Memories Book 3, is the third of its kind, but this is the first time the Leisure and Learning Group have added to the Elder Tree Group’s contribution.

Club manager Laurel Armitage said: “I think the book is very interesting. I find all the memories absolutely fascinating and really informative.

“We sometimes forget older people have often had interesting lives and careers. Reading the book really makes you appreciate the changes these people have lived through.”

The idea behind the scheme came from local historian Tony Rowley, who teaches both groups.

The book took six months to put together and was published by the Adult Work Unit before it was closed. It includes war stories, along with childhood memories and tales of later life.

Copies of Present Memories Book 3 cost £3 by contacting Laurel Armitage at the volunteer centre on (01723) 369034.
