DOZENS of volunteers turned out to complete the five-mile course of this year's Christian Aid Week sponsored walk in Scarborough.
The walk was started by the town’s mayor, Janet Jefferson and consort, husband Geoff, at St Michael’s Church in Filey Road.

The route followed Esplanade, up to St Mary’s Church Hall, along Castle Road, Auborough Street and back to St Michael’s Church.

Event organiser David Bridge, the secretary of Scarborough Christian Aid, said this was just one event during the week, which runs until Saturday and he hoped more than £12,000 would be raised.

During the week 150 volunteers will carry out a door-to-door collection and sell cakes from a stall at the back entrance of Boyes. There was also a concert at Westborough Methodist Church on Saturday.

Mr Bridge said: “All the funds raised will go to Christian Aid’s general funds and then we are also raising funds for the Burma Cyclone Appeal.”

The charity works in 60 of the poorest countries to combat the effects of climate change.
