STUDENTS at George Pindar Community Sports College are invited to a "Your Future Evening" to discuss their options after leaving school.
The event takes place on Wednesday February 24 from 5.30pm to 7.30pm at the school's restaurant, Georgio's.

The purpose of the event is for Year 9, 10 and 11 pupils to have the opportunity to think about their future when they leave the Eastfield school.

College staff will be on hand to offer advice and talk to students.

Refreshments will also be available.

Now, OK it was a long time ago, but when I went to school we got this kind of advice during the school day. And quite useless it was too, as all the teachers (as we used to call the "college staff" in those far-off days) had only ever had one job in their lives, namely teaching.

So "College staff will be on hand to offer advice and talk to students" may sound helpful, but what they need in this day and age is proper careers advice from qualified people.

Re1 Eng like,
Quite agree with advise from proffesionals, 'Jobcentre plus' would be a good starting point if you stay in this town, learn the benefits system and your on to a winner.

Or if you are related to a councillor, want a job for life, no hard work, pop in when you want (flexitime) and as above live for the rest of your life on public funding, the clown hall is the place for you.

However as an retired proffesional take my advise and move out of town, fast.

Well im not sure how old everyone is on here who comments but careers advice has changed alot since I was at school. I think this a positive step from the College and it is good that they are taking an active role in post college life. I for one will be attending with my daughter as I did with my son when he was there, it had a postitive effect on him and he is now doing well, and no been related to a Councillor does not get you a job for life as there is no such thing.

I totally agree with you Cllr Simpson. The College is trying it's best for our future generation and they need support in doing so, and not Negativity all the time. I sometimes wonder if people just sit and find fault with the College and all that they do.

From a personal opinion, with good jobs at a premium, I feel that being fluent in another language is a wonderfull qualification to have in the future. As we are now it seems linked more to Europe having another language opens up far more career options.
