A SCARBOROUGH youngster is advancing up the Scouting ladder.
Andrew Trigg, 14, of Newby, joined Kestrel Scouts at St Mark’s Church in May 2004. Since that time he has achieved seven challenge awards and a number of activity badges.

The teenager has represented his troop at a number of events over the years. His personal challenge included completing a 40 mile hike in 24 hours.

Scouts district commissioner Bonnie Purchon said Andrew’s leadership skills were gained through organising competitions and working with the younger Scouts by helping them through their first awards. He has also taken part in planning events such as an evening of entertainment for parents.

Andrew is a keen musician and plays the keyboard. He has started to work towards his bronze Duke of Edinburgh award, and will become a young leader with the Cub Scouts and a part of the Explorer Scouts. He has also done a lot of work with St Mark’s Church.

Kath Eames, of Hibernia Street, Scout leader with the 42nd Scarborough St Mark’s, received her 25-year award at the same time.

Mrs Eames began as a leader with 38th Scarborough before moving over to 46th Westborough where she ran the Beaver section there for 15 years. Before retiring which only lasted a few weeks then she took over the Scouts and is still there today. Kath takes all the leaders through their First Aid course every three years.
