PERCY the cat is the North Bay Railway's most purrfect passenger as he uses the train weekly to travel to Scarborough's Sea Life Centre.
Scarborough's smartest cat catches the train on its own and spends the day at the Sea Life Centre before travelling home using the popular service.

He has no help and even knows the train times. He has been making the trip for the last four years.

Staff at the Sea Life Centre say they see him most weeks wandering around before he gets on the train home.

Sharon Jarvis said: "He has been coming here for years now. He lives near Peasholm somewhere.

"He gets on the train in the morning and then spends the day with us. He just wanders around and when a member of the public comes in and opens the door he sneaks through.

"He loves it here. He particularly likes watching the penguins but unfortunately they get scared of him so we have to move him away. But he is harmless.

"He always knows when the train is coming as well. He is a very smart cat."

"We do not have a telephone number for the owners but we know they live somewhere near Peasholm Park.

"We all love Percy and we are sure he will carry on coming here."

What a purrfectly wonderful story, plus a good free advert for the railway and the Sea life centre.

And Percys owners have been worried as percy at times appears to be off his tinned cat food.

It is to be hoped the the sea life centre does not have ducks or they could be looking at a duck filled fatty puss.

Hmmmmm. Looking at the story, it seems they are more worried about him "ppppp picking up a penguin" !

As Thomas Gray said, "what cat's averse to fish?"

In the case of the North Bay Railway, the volunteers who keep it going deserve a free plug!
