MEMBERS of staff and governors at a Scarborough school have been praised for their "outstanding" work in a recent Ofsted report.
Springhead Special School in Barry’s Lane was described as an “extremely happy school” by inspectors.

The school caters for children aged between two and 19 who have severe and complex learning difficulties.

Inspectors said the leadership and m
anagement was outstanding, describing the staff and governors as committed to the long-term development of the school.

They said: “The headteacher is continually looking for ways to improve the quality of education offered to pupils and has been very creative in managing the many shortcomings in the accommodation. This has led to innovative and highly successful ways of meeting pupils’ needs.

“Since the last inspection the school has not stood still and actively seeks ways to improve what it offers pupils.”

Headteacher Debbie Wilson said: “I was thrilled that the school was described as extremely happy as this is what we try to achieve every day.

“A happy school makes learning easier for pupils and makes the workplace fun to be in so that we can continue to recruit and keep our excellent staff.”

The report also highlighted the positive relationships between adults and pupils throughout the school.

It reads: “Pupils are treated with respect and pupils respond by working hard in lessons and trying their best in other areas.”

Mrs Wilson added: “This is one of the things that accounts for the pupils’ excellent behaviour, despite the many barriers they face in their learning.”

The reports also says the school offers outstanding care, guidance and support to the pupils.

The inspectors said: “All pupils are treated with the utmost respect and dignity. Staff are good role models and relationships across the school are positive. Staff are prepared to ‘go that extra mile’ for the benefit of the pupils.

“All safeguarding procedures are secure and parents are very satisfied that their children are well cared for and safe.”

To celebrate the successful report pupils, staff and governors had a special fish and chips lunch.
