A MUSIC video producer is looking for extras to appear in a music video to be shot in Scarborough this weekend.
It is for a song by Leeds-based band We Were All Made In China and will be filmed in the South Bay on Sunday between 10am and 2pm.

Tom Smalley, a 23-year-old student film producer from the Northern Film School in Leeds, said the music video was for his final year graduation project and would be used by the band for promotional purposes.

He said: "The music video will feature shots of the band performing, intercut with a simple story about a Grinch-like character called The Creep who gets his kicks cutting the cords of children's helium balloons."

Tom said he was looking for local people to take the part of outraged parents in the video. He added: "The scene we are shooting is the grande finale of the video where The Creep is finally cornered on the beach and charged at from all directions by angry people.

"Everyone will be holding helium balloons and it will look more dramatic the more people we have to help!

''It is unpaid work but it will be a lot of fun to be a part of. Anyone who wants to take part can just turn up on the day at Scarborough beach.

"We chose to shoot the video in Scarborough for it's picturesque views and we are really keen to get as many local people involved as possible."

He added that the crew would be using an unusual camera technique which would make Scarborough look very different.

"As far as we know, we are the first people to make a genuine tilt-shift music video, and we're really excited about utilising this technique in our video," he said.

"Tilt-shift photography is traditionally used in architectural photography, but we're using tilt-shift lenses to transform Scarborough into a miniature toy town in our film.

"It's a fascinating effect and we're confident it will make our music video really stand out. We were influenced by the Australian video artist Keith Loutit, who uses the tilt-shift technique in his videos."

He added that he particularly looking for people aged between 25 and 70 to appear in the video and, as well as Sunday's shoot, there was the possibility of other roles during other shooting times from Saturday until the beginning of next week.

Tom said: "These would be principal roles and those cast would get plenty of time on screen – and we'll feed you, to boot."

People who are interested can just turn up on Sunday or contact Tom by email at tom.smue@gmail.com or by ringing him on 07772 537980.
