A HOUSING association is planning to install gates between streets in the Old Town to combat fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour.
Yorkshire Coast Homes has suggested the gates should be installed between the rear accesses of Cross Street and Friargate.

A public consultation now aims to find out what residents think and how they would like the system to be developed.

The consultation will take place on Monday May 19 at Auborough Street Business Centre between 2pm and 5pm.

Cllr Janet Jefferson, said: “There are problems with the bins being kicked over in that area after being left in the main street. The new scheme will aim to improve the environment.”

Mike Randall, Yorkshire Coast Homes housing service manager, said: “The new scheme will help alleviate some of the fly-tipping incidents which are also prevalent. The gating system will allow only residents and their visitors to access those areas.”

He said Yorkshire Coast Homes had been allocated an amount of money for environmental improvements and the Cross Street and Friargate areas had been pinpointed specifically.
