A FIRE safety course aimed at small businesses is being held at Filey Fire Station from 10am this Tuesday.
Firefighters are targeting small businesses in the Scarborough area to ensure their staff are trained in fire and safety-related procedures, and those attending the course in Filey will be able to use extinguishers on a real fire.
A spokesman for the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said they already provided training to industry and commerce but they had received an increasing demand to provide courses for smaller businesses.
He said the Health and Safety at Work Act and the Fire Precautions Act placed a direct responsibility on employers to ensure staff were trained in fire and safety related procedures.
The course costs £48 per person.
