A BLAZE that destroyed a village farmhouse near Scarborough was caused by fuel leaking from a loose connection in a cooker that ignited a naked flame, say fire chiefs.
White House Farm at Foxholes, off the Scarbor-ough to Driffield road, was gutted by fire on Sunday.
Businessman Ian Scru-ton and his wife Sue, who own agricultural engineers Wilfred Scruton Ltd, were in the garden of their home when the blaze started and could only look on in horror. Their daughter Laura had gone to the shops.
No-one was hurt in the fire but little could be salvaged from the farmhouse which now stands charred.
A report by North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue has pinpointed the cause to the cooker.
Crews from six fire appliances fought the blaze, which spread quickly.
Fire crews were called out again to the farmhouse yesterday to deal with another small fire.
It was caused by smouldering rubble and debris from Sunday’s blaze. Crews from Filey and Snainton were called at 9.50am and used two hose reels to damp down the fire.
