A SCARBOROUGH teenager who is battling cancer is hoping to raise £2,000 after making a charity CD with her uncle.
Ellie Othick-Bowmaker, of Newby, has performed a song called Butterfly's Wings in aid of children's brain tumour charity Ali's Dream.

It was written for the 14-year-old by her uncle, Glenn Coggin, who works as an office manager at Othick Roofing.

Mr Coggin, 46, said: "Ellie loves the song – she's really pleased with it. The idea came about when we were in my car on the way back from Bridlington and she told me to put some good music on!

"It was Ellie's idea to make the CD for charity. We've had 1,000 copies made and we're hoping to raise as much as possible."

Ellie has been fighting cancer since 2007 and has undergone many hours of treatment including chemotherapy.

Earlier this year the Scalby School pupil launched her own series of events, including a sponsored bike ride, head shave and cake sale, which raised nearly £10,000 for children's charities.

The teenager recently received the national Kingswood Young Champion's Award for her efforts after being nominated by friends.

Mr Coggin, of Murchison Street, said: "Ellie's brilliant – she's doing well and her sense of humour is still there. We're all really proud of her."

The CD is now on sale for £5 and is available from Mojos in Northway and Dare Hair in Castle Road.

It features three tracks: a version of Butterfly's Wings performed by Ellie, one sung by Glenn and another song which also features Ellie.

Mr Coggin said they had managed to keep production costs of the CD to a minimum, so most of the £5 will go to charity.
