A SCARBOROUGH community office has won recognition from the Duke of York for its services.
The Castle Community Office in the Market Vaults has been awarded the Duke of York community initiative, which officially recognises local project achievements.
The Duke of York, Prince Andrew, founded the initiative in 1997.
It is primarily
concerned with the development of community spirit, individual leadership and initiatives in Yorkshire and the Humber.
Community officer Christine Mackay said: “We are very pleased to have been awarded the community initiative.
“It recognises the hard work of all the volunteers here and the success we have achieved so far.
“We hope the office will grow from strength to strength.”
The community office offers a range of services for the local area.
These include low-cost internet access and office services, and drop-in centres with the police, local councillors, a nurse, and money management officer Andy Rose, from Yorkshire Coast Homes.
There is also a wide range of leaflets and information about housing, benefits, social activities and groups.
The centre is also hoping to start up computer training courses in the near future.
