A TERRIFIED dog was tied to a tree for up to two days and repeatedly kicked and punched by youths.
RSPCA inspectors have now made an appeal for information regarding the attack on the female black lurcher, which was found among shrubbery in Lady Edith's Drive, Scarborough, on Tuesday morning.
A gang of youths was seen beating the stray before running away. A witness, who had heard the dog's yelping, immediately rushed her to Swanzdale Vets in Scalby Road but refused to leave any details.

The dog has since been taken to Coppergate Kennels in Gowland Lane, Cloughton, where she will be kept for seven days before being rehomed.

The attack was condemned as "disgusting" by RSPCA Inspector Helen Smith. She said: "The dog lost all her teeth and sustained cuts to her nose and lip after being kicked in the head.

"The dog is quite nervy at the moment, especially around men and particularly when you go to put anything around her neck. It is terrible – the fact she was tied up in the first place in this weather and without any food or water.

"She was so hungry that she must have been there for a couple of days.

"There are more and more attacks been carried on animals by children at the moment and it is worrying. They are attacking animals one day, who knows what will be next? I hope somebody will come forward and tell us who was responsible."

Anyone with information is urged to contact Inspector Smith on 0300 1234999.

The incident follows a vicious attack last month when four teenage yobs tied a cat inside a plastic bag and kicked it around like a football in Stepney Road, near the Crown Tavern.

The 18-month-old female British short-haired cat, called Pusskins, was reunited with its owner following an Evening News appeal.

A sad but typical reflection on our society. Kids rule the streets and they know they are untouchable. Try to intervene and you risk the children turning on you. The police will also turn on you too as it helps their clear-up rate. My own dog was, er, allegedly, poisoned and killed for fun (?) by children. God help us all.

Well, the question is what the hell is kevinisout on about?
Im sure if he spent time with the police, or went to court to watch some trials he would have a different opinion of the Police. How about not commenting on things you know nothing about.

I do however believe it is a sad time when youths tie up a dog to beat it, i would quite like to do the same to them and see how they like it.

Give me and my mates a couple of hours with this SCUM and we will kick and punch them beyond recognition and come to it bring along their SCUM parents and they can have a bit as well. I have trod in things like them!

when i was at school, some 15 years ago, we were warned not to pick flowers bcos otherwise there wouldn't be enough for everyone to enjoy looking at. i dread to think what children are told in schools these days, no knifes/guns/drugs??? i am scared to have children in this country bcos of the way things are, children dont care about who or what they are harming.

When are tese yobs and anyone who ill treats animals going to get the punishment they deserve? this was such a terrible story i want them to suffer the same fate IF this brought tears to my eyes,
they are caught,
I hope someone gets to them before the police do, and make them suffer

If these evil children are ever caught, I think part of their punishment should involve working under supervision at a dog rescue centre, for a very long time.. Hopefully a dog might bite them!!!

I dread reading what is going to happen next in our lovely town each night the news is more dire and upsetting.

I thought gangs were going to be rounded up after a certain time and taken home. What has happened to stop this? There needs to be a curfew, so parents know where their offspring are and have to be responsible for their actions.

We could do with Robo cop over in this town now.

This is very disturbing article and these children need to be educated and socialised.
There is now overwhelming evidence of a direct link between animal and human abuse.

‘The FBI considers animal cruelty to be one of the predictors of violence and considers past animal abuse when profiling serial killers’

The Animal Welfare act needs to be stringently enforced by the police who have greater authority, rather than leaving the job to the overstretched publicy funded RSPCA.

The usual predictable hang-'em-and-flog-'em responses.

The fact remains, these are crimes, they should be investigated by the Police, the perpetrators arrested, brought before the Courts, and (if found guilty) sent to prison for a long time. No need for hanging flogging or national service.

It's all going wrong of course because the Police are too busy monitoring the situation from the Station, the Courts are too lenient (see today's story about the criminal whose girlfriend got off for example), etc etc. Society does have the means to deal with these criminals, it just isn't using them.

animal cruelty happens everywhere unfortunaetly, but that part aint far away from some council estates, and after having a cat shot in that area and watching some of the adults with animals there is obviously a new generation of non animal lovers who watched their parents and neighbours. Not all council estates are bad, not everyone living on bad ones are bad - we get put where they give us. But adults should set an example

A report that has truly made me feel physically ill - I trust that all the do-gooders are proud of the sick and twisted society that they have spawned. This is pure evil and the perpetrators should be given some of their own medicine - of course it would mean treading on a few toes ( political and social ) but hey-ho. No-one has the cahunas to do it ! Totally sickening ...
