THE funeral of charity fundraiser Ernie Robinson will be held next week.
Mr Robinson, 93, of Normanby House, Belgrave Crescent, died on Sunday at Scarborough Hospital. He had been ill for some time.
A service will be held at 1pm next Tuesday followed by internment at 2pm in Scarborough Cemetery.
Tributes have continued to pour in for Mr Robinson.
Roger Coles, a close friend said: “Ernie was a fine gentleman and will be sadly missed, especially by his church family at Westborough.
“He was a lifelong Methodist who, like John Wesley, regarded the world as his parish. He was concerned for all people but especially children.
“Ernie was placed in an orphanage as a child but overcame adversity to live a life of service to others.
“He was fiercely independant but was very grateful to those who helped hm in his later years. In the last 10 years of his life, Parkinson’s Disease robbed him of his physical vigour, but not his mental agility and certainly not his determination to live a useful life in the service of others.
“Ernie gave sacrificially to charity and collected for many of them day after day at the Harbour Bar until frailty prevented him from going there.”
Mr Robinson, who had helped organise his own funeral arrangements, had asked for donations to be made to Westborough Church and Woodlands School.
