AS Remembrance Sunday draws nearer, it brings with it the long-standing tradition of Poppy sellers on Scarborough's streets.
But it also sees the established practice of civic party collectors, which includes the mayoress selling Poppies.

The Evening News received the photograph above showing former Scarborough mayors and mayoresses doing just that more than 20 years ago.

The picture, believed to be from the early 1980s, was sent in by Laila Bradley, of Wykeham, who is the wife of former Scarborough Council chief executive Russell Bradley.

It shows Mrs Bradley with former Scarborough mayor Elizabeth Mackenzie next to former mayoresses the late Rita Jenkinson and the late Doreen Young, with Mrs Bradley on the right as they left the Town Hall to encourage people to wear their Poppy with pride.
