SCARBOROUGH coastguards were called into action yesterday morning after reports of a stranded dinghy at Cayton Bay.
The team arrived to find the dinghy was, in fact, a 15ft boat powered by an outboard motor which had been launched from Scarborough Harbour.

It had been washed on to the beach, leaving its two occupants shaken but safe and well.

Both people, who were visitors, were wearing lifejackets.

Mark Appleby, deputy station officer for Scarborough Coastguard, said: “We would urge anyone launching a boat to ensure they are aware of the local weather and tide conditions and they are carrying adequate, safety equipment.”
