DRIVERS taking part in a classic car rally stopped off for a tasty meal at a Scarborough chippy.
The rally featured around 15 cars and was organised by the Scarborough Classic and Thoroughbred Car Club. Drivers tucked in to fish, chips and ice cream at Silks in Crossgates.

The rally set off from Seamer and passed through Ayton, Burniston, Cloughton, Staintondale, Harwood Dale and ended in Scarborough.

John Matson, of The Pastures, Cayton, owns a 1938 Flying Standard 12 and was one of the first to arrive.

He said: "It was fantastic weather and we all enjoyed the rally and the fish and chips. I take part in quite a few rallies and the car copes well with all the hills.

"It's very nice to drive but you have to go at a leisurely pace!" The retired maintenance engineer, 69, has owned the car for 10 years and is its sixth owner.

Andrew Thompson of Silks said: "It went well and everyone enjoyed their fish and chips. They're planning to come back in September and there may be up to 100 cars."

The club meets at 7pm on the first Wednesday of every month at the Mayfield in Seamer.
