GREEN-FINGERED pupils from a Scarborough school paid a visit to Manor Road Nurseries.
The youngsters from Barrowcliff Infants, aged between five and six years old, have been studying plants and growth at school.
Teacher Andrea Dixon said: “Two classes visited the nurseries over two days and all the pupils really enjoyed it.
“They found out about how the council grows plants from seedlings and how they are planted around Scarborough. We looked at a seed-sowing machine and went into a greenhouse full of cacti – the children were fascinated with a huge aloe vera plant.
“The staff at Manor Road fantastic and were keen to share their expertise – they are really passionate about what they do and this certainly rubbed off on the children.”
Team leader Bob Kendall said: “We showed the children everything from seeds to the final product. They were very interested and asked plenty of questions.”
The youngsters were presented with two tomato plants and a squash plant to put in their own garden at school.
Mrs Dixon said: “We have been growing beans in class and planting sunflower and apple seeds. All the children are busy watching them to see what happens!”
