A GROUP of Scarborough Brownies enjoyed their first attempt at maypole dancing.
Overdale Brownies, who are aged between seven and 10, were "shown the ropes" by assistant group leader Maureen Croft and her parents Cyril and Sheila Swales.

Mrs Croft said: "My parents take part in a lot of folk dancing so they were able to provide the maypole. All the girls really enjoyed it – they did ever so well to say they had never done it before.

"I've been a leader for many years but we've never done this in the past. It was a great success so we may carry on with it each year now as a bit of a tradition."

The group has 15 members and meets every week at Overdale Primary School.

Forthcoming events include a treasure hunt, sandcastle competition and pack holiday during the summer.
