RESIDENTS and businesses in Falsgrave have been left without gas after a burst water main ruptured a gas pipe in the area.
The incident, which is believed to have taken place on Thursday evening, is known to be affecting a number of properties including those in Commercial Street and St John's Road.

A spokesman for Yorkshire Water said: "The difficulty for us at the moment is in locating the burst, which has found its way into the gas main.

"Once we have located the burst and isolated it, we can then get on with the repair and allow Northern Gas Network to do much the same."

What a stupid comment,ok dont dig the road up just let water and gas escape.I think its better to repair them.

I think what #1 was getting at was the fact that they tend to dig it up, fix the problem then leave a great big hole in the road for 3 weeks before someone comes and fills it in.

Never mind the road works! The previous contributors need to think about those of us who haven't had a gas supply for 3 days. We might not be freezing to death but we haven't all got electric showers and cookers.
The gas people have been very good though it would have been helpful to have a card through the door on Thursday afternoon to say the gas was off before I got into a panic that my new boiler had broken down.
Strikes me there have been a few too many water leaks in this area recently: two in Wykeham st earlier this year. I think its common knowledge that this country's water/sewage infrastructure badly needs updating. Still I suppose we are to be thankful that living in Scarboro' we didn't get flooded as other parts of the country did a few years ago. That is with the exception of the poor couple in Wykeham st. who got a lovely waterfall through their bedroom window last January!
