A Scarborough councillor has criticised a lack of consultation with the public over the siting of new glass recycling bins around the borough.

Well this will most certainly create a lot of employment in the town, eventually there are to be 120 of this bins dotted throughout the whole borough and with a public consultation on the siting of each one SBC will need a whole new dept and dozens of staff.

If you would like to be 'A bin siting public consultion officer' you should apply now.

What difference would it make if the public were consulted ?. The Council leader Cllr. Tom Fox and his cronies do their own agenda whatever anyone says.

He will not listen to common sense over the Open Air Theatre white elephant debacle` so some bottle bins have no chance of being discussed.

I don't know who the cllr is, but all they had to do was either e-mail or pick up the 'phone to talk to me, and then I could have given them an update.
Once again the SEN fail to ask the cabinet member (me) what is happening before going to print.
Firstly, the falsgrave one, as I understand it, has been sorted through officers visiting the complainant and agreeing an alternative site.
Secondly, and more importantly, I have called a meeting with the lead officers ( wed afternoon)to go through ALL the new sites, discuss the areas where they are sited, the rational behind choosing these sites, and to go through the complaints that have been received so far so as to agree a way forward that will still enable the glass bins to be sited, but to ensure that they are sited in a position that is least intrusive.
And before you ask - no I wasn't consulted on the sitings either! This is something that I am dealing with internally to ensure that it doesn't happen again.

#3 It should never have happened in the first place.

And people wonder why we have so little faith.

Is this the real reason for these unsightly bins and not having a kerbside glass collection scheme.

Under Tory plans announced today,
Families will accumulate points for the amount of household waste they recycle, which could then be used to claim up to £130 a year in vouchers from retailers such as Marks & Spencer and Tesco.

So with SBCs bottle bins collecting the glass will the councillors be claiming the vouchers for themselves, after it is the most Enterprising town in whole world.

#3 - 'I wasn't consulted on the sitings either' - another case of the tail wagging the dog. SBC never learn, they have recently incurred the wrath of Filey Town Council by inappropriately siting two lots of recycling bins, one at the West Avenue car park and one at the top of Scarborough Road, in both cases tax payers money has been wasted resiting. So much for transparency and public consultation.

#3. Cllr Backhouse is to be thanked for at least actually letting the public know straight away what is going on. It is the second instance of his actually intervening in a matter of public concern - the first one being the right turn for vehicles exiting Currys. Although I do not share your political opinions, I do accept that you (alone) seem to respond to concerns of the whole electorate. Sadly your leader does not seem so inclined. I await a response from him to an e-mail sent early August re delegated powers and a letter sent a month ago re the OAT funding under the freedom of information act. As Cllr Fox was acting Finance portfolio holder following the departure of Cllr Chambers and Cllr Kenyon had not taken up her post, it seemed particularly pertinent to ask if ALL Councillors were made aware of the impending shortfalls in income that are now becoming known, BEFORE they were asked to vote on further significant loans being agreed. It appears that he was in a position using his delegated powers during a holiday period to progress agreements, funding, contracts etc without reference to anybody. That cannot be correct as the public voted against electing a Mayor as opposed to a body of democratically elected members. Both the Ombudsman and the Audit Commission have been advised of my concerns on this issue.

Indeed, Cllr. Backhouse once again has no problem in posting comments and as 7 BGS writes should be thanked for doing so.

He has posted on a number of subjects.

What a shame he who should be leading, the illustrious Cllr. Tom Fox did not have the courage to do the same.

At the end of the day glassware should be collected on Blue Bin day in a seperate container like a milk crate as they do in other places.

What an economical process they have at SBC.

A team of council employees turn up with as many vehicles and install a bottle bank, after complaints from nearby residents and proper consideration it is decided that the site was not a good location and another should be used. A team of council employees with as many vehiles will then turn up to remove the bottle bank, no doubt followed by a second team of council employees with as many vehiles to repair the damage caused by the removal. Then a team of council employees and as many vehicles will install the bottle bank in a new location which has been given proper consideration.

All because someone hasn't done their job properly, perhaps the were too busy playing catch the gong.
