A FESTIVE evening of carol singing will take place in Peasholm Park.

The free Carols in the Park event proved popular last year, and organisers are hoping to attract another big crowd of singers.

This year's event is on Wednesday December 17, from 6pm to 8pm.

Organiser Christine Mark said: "We will meet at the Lily pond where we will stage a circle dance called The Shepherd's Dance asking members of the public to join in with us. The dance is simple, it must be – I can do it!

"Then, we will process down along the Glen, banging our drums and rattling our rattles while singing The 12 Days of Christmas."

The event will be declared open by town crier Alan Booth and Scarborough's mayor, Eileen Vickers, will introduce the event. The EASY Jazz Band will then lead the crowd in song.

Other groups performing on the night will include the Kevin O'Connor Irish Dancers, the Scarborough in Song Community Choir and the Graham School Choir.

Seasonal light refreshments will be on sale at the Buttercup Kiosk.

Ms Mark added: "All these people are performing for free. However, we need to raise £400 to cover the cost of hiring the sound and lighting system these performers deserve. We are hoping the good people of Scarborough will help us out. All donations, however small, are gratefully received."

If you can help please call Christine Mark on (01723) 375849.
