SCARBOROUGH'S ninth annual Seafest began last night, promising a bumper weekend full of special events.
The international maritime festival kicked off with an opening concert on the West Pier and musical performances at the Leeds Hotel, Leeds Arms and The Merchant, featuring acts from all over the world.

Three well-known vessels are visiting over the three-day event – The Grand Turk, The Reaper and The North East Guardian, all of which will be open for tours.

The festivities will continue all day today and tomorrow and will include cookery demonstrations, the Song for the Sea competition and a lifeboat demonstration.

A fireworks display will brighten the skies above South Bay from 10.30pm tonight, weather permitting.

Tomorrow will feature a host of live music, maritime exhibitions and a premiere of the May-Day Tugs of War short film in the Sea Cadets Hall in Tuthill.
