JIM MORAY will play tracks from his much-anticipated third album Low Culture at the Coliseum in Whitby on Saturday.
Jim, 24, is the singer, multi-instrumentalist, arranger and producer who has created startlingly contemporary recordings of England's traditional songs, described as the most significant development in folk music in the last 30 years.

The gig is being promoted by Musicport, whose director Jim McLaughlin says: “This is certain to be one of the gigs of the year as far as we’re concerned and to get Jim to come and play in a small intimate venue like this is a real coup.”

The support act is pianist and singer Belinda O’Hooley, who recently finished a stint as pianist with the much-heralded Rachel Unthank and the Winterset.

Tickets can be booked by ringing 01947 605089.

Musicport’s next gig is TransGlobal Underground and Samay at the Spa in Bridlington on July 4. A coach will run from Whitby to Bridlington via Scarborough and back.

The latest unconfirmed additions to the line-up of Musicport’s annual world-music festival at Brid Spa from October 17-19 include Toumani Diabaté, Ska Cubano, the Zoe Rahman Project and Rolf Harris.

Stewards are needed and application forms can be found on the Musicport website.

After an £18m refurbishment, Brid Spa is due to reopen on May 31 with a gig by the Pigeon Detectives.
