A BLUES band that kicked up a lot of dust at Cellars a few months ago is back in town on Sunday.
The Blue Hand Gang, formerly Gugun and the Blues Bug, will play at the Tap and Spile at 4pm and Cellars at 9pm.

The band, led by Indonesian guitarist Gugun, created such a stir at their first Cellars gig in December that the pub was chock-a-block by the time of their second, in January.

"The second gig at Cellars was an awesome night," recalls Al Lawrence, who plays blues harp. "Made popular from the first gig a month prior, the party was rocking from an early hour, even before we had set up. By 9pm, the place was packed to the rafters, with 50 gig-goers having to listen from the carpark," says Al.

"Once again we have a gruelling tour schedule with gigs up and down the country. Highlights include the UK's biggest blues festival in Colne, Lancashire, and a flight to Belfast for their blues festival, supporting guitarist Steve Cropper (formerly of Booker T and the MGs, Stax records hit writer and actor in The Blues Brothers film as a band member).

The other members of the band are Tom Townsend on drums and Jono Armstrong on bass.

Fusing the sounds of psychedelic rock, smooth blues and melodic funk, they got together in the blues bars of Jakarta, Indonesia, in the summer of 2004. Key influences include Hendrix, Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan.

They will also play at the Cask on January 12.
