SAXOPHONIST Simon Peat makes his first appearance at Scarborough Jazz at the Cask tonight.
Simon studied with Paul Dunmall and Jackie McLean before spending his early playing years in Paris, where he accompanied Johnny Griffin, Charles Lloyd, Maynard Ferguson, Lionel Hampton and other visiting Americans.

For the past two years he has been based in the UK playing with his own bands and working as a session player in the popular music scene.

He has played with Lulu, Robbie Williams, Rod Stewart, Jools Holland, Ry Cooder and many others.

Recent tours of Europe and the US have enhanced Simon's standing and his first CD Freya's Groove was critically acclaimed.

Downbeat magazine says it is "pure energy combined with lightning fast fingers and a comprehensive knowledge of the blues make this young saxophonist a joy to listen to".

Simon is backed by the Mike Gordon Trio and admission is free.

Next Wednesday sees the return of trumpeter Martin Jones, who is a favourite with Scarborough audiences and will be playing material associated with Chet Baker.
