THE Geoff Laycock Big Band returns to the scene of many past triumphs on Wednesday 16 July.
The band played at popular dances at the Spa Ocean Room every week in the years before the late Geoff opened his popular night spot, the Candlelight Club in Huntriss Row.
Band member Bob Malinowski says: "With the return of the popularity of ballroom dancing, helped by such programmes as Strictly Come Dancing, and the touring dance shows which followed it, the time couldn't be better to reintroduce big-band dances at the Spa ballroom.
"If, however, your interest is in listening to rather than dancing to the big-band sound, dancing is not compulsory," Bob says.
The band will work its way through a varied repertoire from the music of Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Glenn Miller to the more recent numbers of Michael Buble and Natalie Cole.
Singers Richard Rogers and Brenda Sharman will front the band of 17 of the region's most talented musicians, each of whom is determined that the great sounds of the big-band era should live on.
The evening will start at 8pm.
