LEEDS folk band Pretty Polly's Beard return to the area on Friday for a gig at the New Tavern.
The band were "a sensation" at the summer solstice gig at the Hayburn Wyke near Cloughton last month, says Tony Turner, who is organising this week's gig.

Nico Smith of the band says: "We are an ensemble of musicians playing traditional folk music, from lively Irish jigs and reels to catchy ballads and shanties, on a myriad of instruments including fiddle, mandolin, banjo, guitar, drum and whistle."

On Saturday at the New Tavern, Alastair James will play two 20-minute spots and then play drums with Tony Turner, Dave Hutchinson and Alistair Huntly, who play guitars, mandolin and harmonica.

Tony says: "During the interval, two of my open-mic regulars, pianist Robert Schmuck (13) and guitarist Max Kynman (11), will play to give them experience with a different audience."

The New Tavern's open-mic nights are every other Sunday. The next one is on July 27.
