A 90-YEAR-OLD musician will retire with a fanfare at Queen Street Central Hall tonight, at 7.45pm.
Freda Briggs is stepping down as accompanist with the Tenor XI choir.

Although Freda joined the singing squad only six years ago, when it was launched, she has been on the music scene for many decades.

Chorister and friend Malcolm Peart says: “She has a proud history of music making as a pianist, accompanist, teacher, choir mistress and singer,” Malcolm says.

“Personally, I am enormously indebted to her. She has played for me at countless events in and around the town and district. She accompanied our quartet party Friends in Harmony for many years and worked happily with me and Ron Rogers on our Flanders and Swann shows.”

Many other performers, groups, churches and organisations would speak just as warmly about what Freda has accomplished.
