MEMORIES of one of Scarborough's most popular and long-running concert series will be rekindled at South Cliff Methodist Church next Monday, at 7.45pm.
Entitled Gala Concert Tribute, the show will feature four people who regularly performed at gala concerts at Queen Street Central Hall – Doreen Kay, Lesley Machen, John Mitchell and Don Kynman.

For many years the concerts were one of the highlights of the Scarborough musical scene until the death of organist and promoter Leslie Sturdy five years ago.

The South Cliff church’s concert organiser, Malcolm Peart, says: “These four artistes are recognised as being among the top local performers over the years, having played major roles with amateur and operatic societies.

“It’s good to be able to bring some of the principal performers together again to remind us of those wonderful evenings which filled Queen Street. We count it as an honour to have been involved.”

Monday’s quartet of vocal talent, accompanied by professional musician Frank James, will sing items from musicals and operettas, plus evergreen ballads and songs.
