THE Geoff Laycock Band will present a charity night of big-band sounds at Scalby Parish Hall on Sunday August 31.
Organiser Ann Golder says the event is back by popular demand after selling out last year and raising over £1,000 for the local branches of the Stroke Club and Parkinson’s Society.
She says: “We had such a fantastic response last time. Everyone said they really enjoyed it and wanted to come again this year. All the money raised will go to local charities.”
Geoff Laycock was a talented musician, writer, arranger and band leader who died in 2004.
The band reformed with many original musicians for a tribute concert in 2005. Since then it has played its distinctive mixture of jazz, swing and big-band tunes at the Beached festival and other arenas.
Ann is a member of Scalby Fair committee, as was the late Ken Middleton, landlord of the Nag’s Head, who sang with the band.
Tickets cost £7.50 and can be bought at the Nag’s Head and Scalby Stores and from Ann on (01723) 377334.
The concert is due to begin at 7.30pm.
