THIS WEEK: Foulsyke Farmhouse Tearoom, Barmoor Lane, Scalby
Jill and I visited Foulsyke Tearoom in Scalby this week. When entering the farmhouse you do get the feeling you are about to eat in someone's house rather than a café or restaurant. Brilliant.
The tea is served in quaint little china sets that are in keeping with the homely country dcor, and the coffee, which is available in decaf or regular, was served in a mini cafetiere with a china cup and saucer.
The preserves, eggs and cakes are displayed on the cupboard in the room and looked fantastic.
The dishes appear to be home made and you could see the kitchen next door where the food was being prepared.
The sandwiches are well presented and accompanied by coleslaw, salad and crisps.
There were four or five choices for dessert including scones with jam and cream.
I went for the carrot cake, which was wonderful and the portion was large enough to enable me to skip lunch (well it did have carrots in it!). The topping on the carrot cake was wonderful and lemony.
Jill had lemon drizzle cake and it was very moist and fruity.
I wish I could bake as well as this.
The meals were not only home made and delicious, but also very cheap, coming in at 1.50 for a tea and the same for coffee, and 2.25 for each dessert.
The tearoom has patio doors which lead into a garden with seating and the setting is really picturesque.
I would say this tearoom is definitely worth a visit if you fancy a nice lunch, or even just some tea or coffee and cake. Please bear in mind Foulsyke is not open Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so make sure you get the correct day.
