THIS WEEK: The Station House Tearooms, Cloughton

If you want a treat on a nice day the Station House Tearooms is the place. Cloughton Station was built in 1885 and won many prizes for the annual "Best Kept Station" competition between 1932 and 1964.

The tea rooms is set in over half an acre of gardens and the station has been extensively renovated but still retains the atmosphere of times past, keeping open fires in three rooms.

There is a good selection of homemade snacks and lovely cakes, scones etc and the portions are very generous. There is a tearoom overlooking the garden or you can sit in the pretty garden.

There is parking available or you can walk up the former Scarborough to Whitby railway line. The prices are as follows :-

Tea 0.90, Hot chocolate 1.60, Toasties from 3.90, Salads from 6.50, Cakes from 1.30, Sandwiches from 3.50.

The Station House also has en suite bed and breakfast rooms, a refurbished air conditioned railway carriage and a luxury conversion of an old goods shed which you can stay overnight in.

The tearooms is open Saturday to Wednesday 10.30am to 5pm.

It is child friendly and Barbara and Steve Hargreaves, the proprietors, are very welcoming. The service and food was excellent and the setting beautiful. The only downside was that the toilet is up a few steps so that may prove difficult for some elderly/disabled customers.

I would definitely recommend these tea rooms and the accommodation and can rate it as follows out of 5:-

Service: **** and a half

Quality of food and drinks: **** and a half

Setting and facilities: ****
