THIS WEEK: OLIVERS MOUNT CAFE
A NICE sunny Saturday morning – we decided to go to a place which can be almost forgotten about, but on a nice clear day the views are spectacular.
The car park has spaces for plenty of vehicles (and no charge) but was very quiet when we arrived probably due to being early lunch time.
The room we entered into was more of a coffee lounge where drinks and light snacks were served but as we were having hot meals we were shown through to the conservatory.
Not many tables were taken so we were able to chose one near the window and admire the beautiful view.
A very extensive menu which consisted of the following:
Starters 1.00 – 4.75
Main courses 5.90 – 7.95
Omelettes with various fillings 5.15 – 5.80
Large Yorkshire puddings 3.80 – 4.70
Jacket potatoes 3.10 – 5.00
Salads 5.25 – 6.75
Hot and cold sandwiches 2.05 – 4.35
Extras 1.60 - 2.95
Snacks on toast 3.00
Cakes and deserts 1.35 – 2.95
And a lovely selection of ice deserts 1.85 – 3.60.
Large selections of hot, cold and alcoholic drinks are also available.
We chose a small brunch, home cooked ham and cheese toasted sandwich and of course a small portion of their lovely cooked chips.
The brunch included bacon, sausage, hash brown, egg, beans, a slice of toast and a pot of tea, this was very well cooked, not greasy and nicely presented.
A larger brunch is also available.
The toastie was served with a lovely side salad and of course we shared the chips which were delicious.
For dessert they did a special of chocolate cake and a tea or coffee.
Well, what can I say this must have been the biggest chocolate cake known to man, it was really delicious but took two of us to finish it!
Although nicely set out, clean and spacious, the restaurant could do with a little refurbishment. A touch of paint here and there wouldn't go a miss, especially the toilets, although these were clean and also provided paper towels, soap dispenses and a baby changing mat.
The ceiling tiles in the conservatory are a little discoloured and could also do with changing.
The young girls who were serving were very efficient even when the place started to full up later on.
Overall, lovely food, lovely views a must for sweet fans.
