THIS WEEK: Francis Tea Rooms, South Street, South Cliff, Scarborough
WE DECIDED to visit the Francis Tea Rooms on South Cliff.
We arrived at the venue at 11.45am on Good Friday to be asked if we had a reservation. When we telephoned the tea rooms earlier in the morning that day no mention of having a reservation was made!
As we did not have a reservation four of us were placed on a table for two in the corner – which was very cosy to say the least.
Francis Tea Rooms is wood-panelled, with little wooden booths set along one wall. The interior of the tea rooms is fantastic, very classy and romantic, and the cakes and biscuits looked fantastic.
We ordered: A gruyere cheese, leek and onion quiche and potato and green salad 4.50, a pasta bake with side salad 5.50, a blueberry muffin, a cloudy lemonade, a coke and a coffee.
Jill said the quiche was homemade.
I had the pasta bake, which was homemade and was delicious. The serving was very generous and the side salad was slightly different as it contained watercress and grapes along with the usual cucumbers, tomatoes etc. Yum yum. The salad was all fresh and crispy.
The freshly made filter coffee was served in quaint china cups and saucers and the milk was served hot in a separate jug with free refills if required. I left on quite a caffeine high.
Our daughters devoured the pasta bake and blueberry muffin and said the food was lovely.
I would say this venue is suited to couples and friends rather than children but we were made welcome.
The only downside is that there were four of us and the table was set for three and the cutlery had not been washed properly.
