Stimulus Map Pack for Modern Warfare 2 - Review
At the end of last month, Infinity Ward shocked the gaming community by releasing their Stimulus Map Pack for Modern Warfare 2. Why the shock?, it had a price tag of 1200 Microsoft Points.
Prior to release, this pricing was slammed by lots of gamers, with many claiming a 'Rip-off' price for 5 maps, 2 of which are 'classic' maps from Call of Duty 4. So, is the new DLC worth the hefty price tag?
On first play of the new maps, you will instantly find a new freshness in the game, just as if it were release day for the game. The whole playing field felt balanced again because no one knew where to go or what to do.
The three new maps available are called Bailout, Storm and Salvage. Bailout is a wide map set in an overrun apartment complex with long sight lines, perfect for single game modes.
Storm is a series of abandoned warehouses in the midst of a thunderstorm and is good for larger team battles and objective gametypes. Salvage is a smaller, snowy effort set in a junkyard.
The two returning COD 4 maps are Crash and Overgrown. Crash is an urban map with a downed helicopter and a giant sniper tower, while Overgrown is a wide open map, again suitable for snipers.
Overall, the new map pack for Modern Warfare 2 is pretty good. The 1200 Microsoft Point price tag may turn some people away, but everyone who pays their points, will now have an extra freshness to the game that the new maps bring.
It is a shame that Infintiy Ward didnt include a new game mode etc., but this is a map pack after all, and there is plenty of time left for further DLC. At the end of the day, if you love Modern Warfare 2, chances are you will pick this up.
