A SCARBOROUGH man is preparing to hit new heights in aid of a children’s charity.

Lee Northage, of Crossgates, will climb Mount Kilimanjaro in October, and is currently raising sponsorship with all proceeds going to the When You Wish Upon a Star charity.

“I normally go climbing about once a month, but it’s usually to the Lake District or Scotland,” said Lee, who works as a joiner.

“I’ve never been climbing abroad before. I’ve been training really hard. At the top of Kilimanjaro there is 50 per cent less oxygen than there is at sea level, so I’m working on my fitness rather than weights.”

It will take seven days of hard walking and camping for Lee to complete the trek.

The When You Wish Upon a Star charity makes dreams come true for children with terminal or life-threatening illnesses.

They pay for once-in-a-lifetime trips so that poorly children and their families can forget about hospital routines, appointments and gruelling treatments.

Lee added: “I decided to do the climb for them because all of the funds goes towards the charity. I wanted the cash to go directly to the kids without someone else milking it.

“I’m hoping that not only will my dream come true but other sick and unfortunate children’s dreams will as well.”
