Top painter backs new arts venture
Internationally renowned artist Clive Head wielded shears instead of a paintbrush at the weekend, and welcomed the arrival of a new venue on the Scarborough arts scene.
The Scarborough-based realist artist, whose work can be seen in private collections and major galleries around the world, cut the ribbon to declare the Arts Workshops open.
Situated on Crown Arcade, Albion Road, the Arts Workshops are the brainchild of Ken and Angie Woods - artist and Tai Chi teacher respectively.
Explaining why art is so vital to communities Clive said: “Art isn’t just about doing fancy exhibitions in big cities. Art is fundamental to our survival. I believe it’s important, and we need to make art continue at grass roots level.
“Whether people want to learn about art, or want to return to it, the facilities here will be available to them.
“This is an important initiative, and Ken should be congratulated. I hope everyone will participate and support this new venture.”
Ken, who is a painter, teacher and art restorer, said: “This is something I’ve wanted to do all my life. And I’m delighted that Clive has agreed to come back and do a masterclass, which will be a great opportunity for local artists. It’s an exciting time.”
The Arts Workshops provides arts facilities, talks, tuition and gallery space. Exhibitions will change on a monthly basis, with the Scarborough Painters Group holding the first show.
